SHAPED CANVASES

In a series of works from 1986-87 Bernd Wolf is preoccupied with abolishing the rectangular panel painting. In these canvases, the congruence between image content and pictorial form is increased, and a dialectical relationship between outside and inside form is brought about. In consequence, the picture surface emancipates itself from our traditional viewing habits within the orthogonal space.
